Beginning in next month in September, CLEAR will be pre-launching and launching many new markets. Join us in welcoming the newest cities to join the CLEAR team this month:
|
Commercial Launch
- Grand Rapids Michigan
- Daytona Beach Florida
- Jacksonville Florida
- Stockton California
- Modesto California
- Wilmington South Carolina
|
Pre-Launch
- Nashville Tennessee
- Orlando Florida
- Boston Massachusetts
- Providence Rhode Island
|
Note for those who didn’t know the terms:
“Pre-Launch” is when CLEAR starts selling locally, but their network isn’t 100% completed. If you sign up during this phase, you are the beta testers so to speak, but CLEAR now has their methods perfected from repetition, so don’t worry too much. You’ll experience a few more holes in covered areas, but those will quickly get filled in over the next month or two.
“Commercial Launch” is where the big public push starts, with advertising on bill boards, special events, news coverage, etc. San Antonio pre-launched last November 1st, and went commercial launch on December 8th with a big hoopla in front of the Alamo downtown.
San Antonio is now considered a “Mature Market”, having survived childbirth and grown into a stable, but still expanding, market.
Contact us at WiMax San Antonio / Austin for all your CLEAR questions or needs. We’ll be here to help you, 7 days a week (cause we take off on the 8th day each week). Call us at 210-771-7075 or email us at lee@wimaxsatx.com. Feel free to post comments to any of our articles that we’ve shared with you here. We do moderate all comments to help keep out the spam and unrelated postings.

Sam Rosario
This past Friday, August 20th, the local CLEAR Staff & Dealers got the “bad” news that the guy who helped launch the San Antonio CLEAR Market last year, Samuel “Sam” Rosario, was being stolen by by New York City’s CLEAR Market.
Yep, stolen from San Antonio, from under our noses.
All the hours of hard work Sam put in, all that over time on evenings and weekends, to the point that even his skin was turning the same shade of green as the official logo, has resulted in a serious promotion for Sam, and he deserves it! Hmm, wonder if all that green Koolaid he was drinking and lack of exposure to sunlight had anything to do with that skin color changing. Just kidding!
Sam had been the Indirect Sales Manager for San Antonio since before it launched on November 1st, 2009. He started by working out of his garage until CLEAR rented office space to be official. He recruited & hired the Indirect Account Reps, training them and sending them out to make cold calls upon prospective dealers who had never even heard of CLEAR.
He conducted info and training meetings for the dealers, and helped convince us that we ought to jump on his coat tails and become CLEAR Dealers. Many of us local dealers, became dealers because either Sam, or his handful of Account Reps, personally convinced us this was a viable risk to take at the time.

We contacted ZAGG to ask for any special discounts on their products, especially in light of the upcoming release of the Sprint EVO 4G phone. We had already found a 20% discount from another source, Discount Code “ ZAGG20″, but we wanted even more to offer our readers and our customers.
Radio Shack will begin offering ZAGG invisibleSHIELD products when the EVO is released on Friday , but at full retail price, no discount, or possibly even marked up a few bucks.

We just received the green light from CLEAR to expand our dealership’s sales territory to include the Austin, Texas market, which includes San Marcos, Austin, and the towns near Austin, such as Pflugerville, Round Rock, etc.
We’ve successfully completed the application process, got the written okay from all parties needed to sign off on it, so now all we’re awaiting is for that pesky computer to get updated so we can start entering orders for customers up north of here.
So please be patient bit longer, and we’ll be in a position soon to start selling CLEAR wireless Internet services to even more folks than before!

This new USB 4G+ CLEAR Modem (Series S) is scheduled to be made available in July 2010, according to what was distributed to the dealers in the San Antonio, Texas market earlier this month. .
Limited market release will be happening in June (not including San Antonio), but the national release won’t be until July 1st. So, please be a bit more patient and all you Mac Users will have the solution you have been looking for! – Lee
The big difference between this new model and the current 4G+ USB modem, to us, is that this model is also compatible with the Mac computers (Leopard & Snow Leopard). It also has a “cute” round disk shape that perhaps will make it more attractive to the Mac community of users.
Now if only CLEAR would release drivers or a USB modem to work on the Linux operating system.

On Saturday, May 1st, some of the staff of WiMaxSATX was hard at work, but weren’t hard at work selling CLEAR. Instead, we were coordinating the HT radios by staff and volunteers at the Area 20 Spring Games in San Antonio, Texas, held at Harlendale Stadium on the south side near Stinson Airport.
But while we were there, since we had the ability to do it, we set up a modem connected to a wireless router, and created a strong Wi-Fi hotspot at the south end of the Harlendale Stadium where the event was taking place.
We set up a 2nd smaller hotspot as well, for roaming around the stadium, using our portable ClearSpot and a 4G USB modem. Due to the very strict rules regarding sponsors and non-sponsors by Special Olympics Texas, we did not advertise our company nor CLEAR during the event, but our clearly marked van was parked in a prominent spot inside the stadium near the track, visible to all volunteers, staff and athletes.

I couldn’t believe the reports I was getting from customers on the northwest side of San Antonio, download speeds up to 17 mbps, upload speeds up to 4-5 mbps? Get Real!
So I took a short drive out to the shopping center where Little Caesar’s Pizza was located (it was customer appreciate day after all) and set up in the parking lot near Tezel Road and Guilbeau Road. We did some speed tests using www.speedtest.net and found out the stories were quite true!
Speedtest thought our IP address was in Midland, Texas, but we used the San Antonio server for testing purposes as always.
Feel free to contact us for all your CLEAR needs in the San Antonio Texas Metro Area by calling 210-771-7075 or email to lee@wimaxsatx.com. We can offer onsite free demos for CLEAR and quick professional installs for DirecTV as well.

The Great Northwest had a Community Fair on Saturday, April 24th, and WiMAX San Antonio was there with a table, just across from the food court (of course).
We had lots of visitors asking about CLEAR and DirecTV services, so we’ll be keeping busy the next couple of weeks trying to fill all the new requests.

Some of the visitors were rather scary however…
Such as this young lady who stopped by to visit…

Clear 4G+ Modem
Back in February we ordered our first very own 4G+ CLEAR Mobile Modem to play with. One of the benefits of being in the business is being able to justify all the toys. The next business day later, a small brown box arrived via next day FedEx, on time as promised.
CLEAR is using the same U300 USB modem that Sprint offers, and has not (yet) released the U301 that Sprint has started offering. The CLEAR 4G+ Mobile Modem is NOT compatible with Mac operating systems at this time.
We went online to activate (remember, we’re already an existing active CLEAR customer ourselves) and waited for it to change the browser over to htpp://home.clear.com to let us view CLEAR’s terms and conditions. Naturally since we were already a current customer, it skipped that first page and went direct to our account, saying we were good to go.
Now normally this means you get instant 4G access, and then 2 hours the 3G access gets automatically authorized by Sprint’s computer system. Two hours later, you ought to be good to go. Key word “ought”.
CLEAR Connection Manager says (on the 3G tab) 3G Initialization Started… then 3G Initialization Failed… then Log on using 4G to accept the terms and conditions first…
We first went online to the chat tech support, but they were no help. One agent even told us that it was because we were “still in a 4G network area, so it won’t work until you go outside the 4G range.” We knew that had to be 100% pure hogwash, but we drove NW 20 miles out past Helotes on Hwy 16 until we lost all 4G signal and then some. We were now in an area that we had previously used our Sprint 3G card with 1.3mbps download speed! Same error message received.
