Dell Tech Support Asks WiMaxSATX For Tech Support
This afternoon, our phone rang, showing a toll free number on the caller ID. We answered and to our surprise, it was someone (perhaps in India, based on their accent?) claiming to be from Dell Tech Support. He asked for technical support to help one of their Dell customers who was trying (very unsuccesfully) to install a CLEAR USB Modem on their Dell Laptop computer running Windows 7.
Now why that Dell Customer didn’t simply contact CLEAR Customer Care via their 800 number direct, who knows? They called Dell instead, thinking it was a problem with Dell’s computer.
Dell Tech Support had done a Google.com search, found this website, then called us for help instead of calling CLEAR. Hmm, that makes 2 of them who didn’t think about contacting CLEAR direct.
Anyway, we knew the answer the minute he said “They’re running Windows 7 and trying to install CLEAR Connection Manager for their USB modem.”
We simply directed them to www.CLEAR.com and told them to click on the “support” link, and then the “download” button, and download the latest CLEAR Connection Manager for Windows. We advised him that the drivers contained on the flash drive shipped with the modem were likely way out of date, and his customer would need the new drivers to make it work.
We also gave them CLEAR’s Customer Care toll free number as well.
CLEAR has recently started shipping CD’s with the USB modems, that contain the newer drivers for both Windows and Mac OS 10.x, but apparently this customer (whom we didn’t talk with direct) had received one without the updated driver CD.
But we have to admit, it did raise our self esteem just a teeny, tiny tad, to be able to return the tech support favor to Dell.
