CLEAR Drops Early Termination Fees

CLEAR has announced they have  dropped the dreaded early termination fees (ETF) on some contracts, effective June 1, 2010.  If you subscribe to CLEAR under a new 2 year contract, and lease the equipment from them, there will not be an ETF applied to the account.  Rather, you will be charged a $40 per device “Restocking Fee” if you cancel before your contract expires.  Of course those who chose to buy equipment and go without a contract don’t have to worry about ETF at all.

Folks who buy Wimax Embedded Devices (i.e. laptops with built in wimax) will still face an ETF fee, as will anyone who buys the CLEAR equipment outright and still enters into a 2 year contract with CLEAR for service.

They have also modified the criteria for opting out of a contract, such as moving out of a coverage area, or being deployed in the military, so if you find yourself in such a pickle, please contact CLEAR’s Customer Care department direct to discuss your case with them.

Of course, you could also do what one San Antonio CLEAR customer did this week.  She listed her 4G+ modem that was under a 2 year contract, on Craigs List to see if anyone wanted to take over payments.  She claims that her job required travel to smaller towns where there was little or no Sprint 3G coverge, and obviously no 4G coverage, so this wasn’t the solution for her purpose.   But that’s one way of getting out of a contract without the worry of an ETF hanging over your head.

Feel free to contact us about any questions or interest in buying CLEAR Internet services in the San Antonio thru Austin market areas.  Call us at 210-771-7075 (cell) or lee@wimaxsatx.com.   We only work 7 days a week, taking off on the 8th.  We make house calls after hours or weekends by appointment only.
