This new USB 4G+ CLEAR Modem (Series S) is scheduled to be made available in July 2010, according to what was distributed to the dealers in the San Antonio, Texas market earlier this month. .
Limited market release will be happening in June (not including San Antonio), but the national release won’t be until July 1st. So, please be a bit more patient and all you Mac Users will have the solution you have been looking for! – Lee
The big difference between this new model and the current 4G+ USB modem, to us, is that this model is also compatible with the Mac computers (Leopard & Snow Leopard). It also has a “cute” round disk shape that perhaps will make it more attractive to the Mac community of users.
Now if only CLEAR would release drivers or a USB modem to work on the Linux operating system.

Clearwire, along with wholesale partners Comcast, Time Warner Cable and Sprint announced their summer 2010 launch lineup on May 5. It’s an impressive list of markets, including Tampa, Orlando, St. Louis, Nashville and Salt Lake City. Clearwire will have 50 U.S. markets by the end this summer.
Comcast will offer 3G Internet services in Boston soon, with WiMAX coming early this summer. In their earnings report for first quarter 2010, Comcast hinted that WiMAX will come to Boston during the second quarter of 2010.
This leaves June as the expected date when Clearwire will launch WiMAX in Boston. It’s an exciting way to start the summer. It is also an exciting time because it’s been announced that Sprint will release the HTC EVO 4G phone on June 4th. This comes along with CLEAR launching services in central Pennsylvania in the beginning of May.

Just read on www.engadget.com that Sprint has finally announced both a release date and a sell price for their new 4G capable HTC EVO cell phone. We’ve since then confirmed it via Sprint’s direct email to us.
The phone will be made available on June 4th, for a price of $199.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate. So expect to shell out $299.99 plus local / state sales taxes if you want one of these neat toys, and then be preparead to wait about 10-14 weeks for your rebate to eventually show up in your mailbox. We speak from experience, because the last time we bought a Sprint 3G Data Modem with a rebate, it took over 2 months to get processed.
Oh, but it gets better, Best Buy made a deal with Sprint to sell the phone, on a pre-order basis, for the $199.99 WITHOUT A MAIL-IN REBATE! Time to head over to Best Buy and get one of them on pre-order. We know we’ll be heading that way soon, ourselves.
Here is what Engadget had to say…

We drove over to Braun Road & Old Tezel Road on the Northwest Side of San Antonio this afternoon, looking to do a signal check on Autumn Shade. Unfortunately for the prospective customer, he lived too far down the road, just over the curve of the hill, so his signal strength was insufficient for our purposes and we declined to sell CLEAR to him.
But the good news was… as we left his subdivision, we found workers installing a new cell tower on the corner of Braun & Old Tezel.
We stopped and talked briefly with one of the supervisors, asking them if they knew who was moving onto that location. One of them pointed to the CLEAR logo on my van and said that was the company he had been told would be installing at the top of this location soon.
This is a great location with excellent elevation that should cover a large area of population where I’ve had to turn down multiple sales over the past few months. Time to dust off those old referral notes and make some phone calls in a few weeks after CLEAR gets that site activated. (Assuming it really was them moving there.)

Clear 4G+ Modem
Back in February we ordered our first very own 4G+ CLEAR Mobile Modem to play with. One of the benefits of being in the business is being able to justify all the toys. The next business day later, a small brown box arrived via next day FedEx, on time as promised.
CLEAR is using the same U300 USB modem that Sprint offers, and has not (yet) released the U301 that Sprint has started offering. The CLEAR 4G+ Mobile Modem is NOT compatible with Mac operating systems at this time.
We went online to activate (remember, we’re already an existing active CLEAR customer ourselves) and waited for it to change the browser over to htpp://home.clear.com to let us view CLEAR’s terms and conditions. Naturally since we were already a current customer, it skipped that first page and went direct to our account, saying we were good to go.
Now normally this means you get instant 4G access, and then 2 hours the 3G access gets automatically authorized by Sprint’s computer system. Two hours later, you ought to be good to go. Key word “ought”.
CLEAR Connection Manager says (on the 3G tab) 3G Initialization Started… then 3G Initialization Failed… then Log on using 4G to accept the terms and conditions first…
We first went online to the chat tech support, but they were no help. One agent even told us that it was because we were “still in a 4G network area, so it won’t work until you go outside the 4G range.” We knew that had to be 100% pure hogwash, but we drove NW 20 miles out past Helotes on Hwy 16 until we lost all 4G signal and then some. We were now in an area that we had previously used our Sprint 3G card with 1.3mbps download speed! Same error message received.

Even though HTC MAX 4G (GSM) hits FCC but it seem Sprint will bring the first WiMAX phone (CDMA) in the US.
This information & article comes to us today from one of our more reliable industry sources, www.Wimaxian.com.
Apparently Sprint will add another Android-based Smartphone in its portfolio. Start from HTC Hero, Samsung Moment and soon the HTC A9292 (Supersonic).
HTC Supersonic has large 4.3inch (480 x 800) capacitive touch screen powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8650 1 GHz processors and operates the latest Android 2.1 Flan. We don’t have any information regarding WiMAX chip but it is presumably utilized Beceem BCSM250 single-chip mobile WiMAX solution. It’s the same chip inside Sprint Overdrive 3G/4G.

We’ve received the CLEAR Wimax Internet March / April Spring Special Deals, and there have been some significant changes to the pricing structure, just as we had “warned” you about earlier.
There are no more “PICK1″, “PICK2″ or “PICK3″ plans. Instead you have “Get 1“, “Get 2“, etc. And instead of saying “Home” and “Mobile“, we now have “Home” and “On-the-Go” Internet services. The CLEAR combo 4G/3G USB card for your laptop is now the “CLEAR USB 4G+” modem. If you wanted the old PICK3 plan that let you have a Home Modem and 2 USB modems, sorry, not available any more.
One of the big improvements, in our opinion, is the ablity to substitute a CLEAR USB 4G+ modem in place of a CLEAR USB 4G (only) modem, by adding $15/month to the service plan, and then leasing or purchasing the appropriate modem. The Home modem remains in 4G mode only.

Everytime we post a new article, it gets blasted on via Twitter, with a link back to our site, to that particular article, just like this one was done. In fact, look along the left column of this webpage to see previous Twitter messages, including this one! We also post Twitters directly from time to time, not based on articles, if we find some hot topic that we just have to Tweet!
So if you want to keep current on our postings, you can either set us as your home page (or one of them), remember to visit often, use the RSS feed to pull the top headers into your Google.com home page, or sign up to follow us on Twitter!
Our Twitter account is of course WiMaxSATX (not case sensitive), and we have lots of other CLEAR dealers following us from around the USA to find out the latest news, current customers who want to keep informed, potential customers who haven’t yet made up their mind to buy CLEAR, and of course some of our competitors here in San Antonio who are trying to figure out how we got our website to monopolize the top 10 of Google.com when you search for key phrase “CLEAR Wimax San Antonio”. Sorry, we won’t tell you how we did that, other than to say we don’t buy key words from Google.com and we follow the marketing guidlines from CLEAR very closely to keep out of hot water with them.

Well, perhaps “hiring” is the wrong word to use.
We’re currently accepting applications from motivated folks who think they can help sell CLEAR Wimax Wireless Internet services in the San Antonio area. Self motivated, able to generate your own leads, cover your own expenses, and get paid commission only. We do pay what we think is a higher rate of commissions than any of our other fellow dealers in the area, believing that if we “feed” those who are doing the leg work to generate the sales, we’ll end up making higher overall profits than if we only have one or two sales reps working the town for new clients.
Several of our current reps have current / former DirecTV sales / installer experience, another simply has access to high levels of traffic passing thru his shop, and one is a computer consultant (in competition with us). So you can tell we like to work with our folks, communicate regular and keep them motivated.
